The disciplinary committee had a duty to impose a sanction that would guide the appellant in his future dealings with the public and also direct members of the profession from straying out of line. Since they were the best possible people for weighing the seriousness of the professional misconduct, it would require a strong case to interfere with the sentence they imposed. However, on weighing the matter carefully and placing in the balance the desire to maintain professional standards and the duty to punish adequately but justly, the appellant’s suspension would be reduced to six months.
